EVEREST TREKKING “A” (14 DAYS)
 
Day 1 : Fly to Lukla, ascends to Phakdign (2611 m.) 5 hours.
 
Day 2 : Namche (3,440 m.)
 
Follow the Bhote Koshi, through forest and pasture land, along a valley dotted small Sherpa settlements. Cross the Bhote Koshi and steep climb to Namche Bazaar. Everest (8,848 m.) and Lhote (8,516 m.) come into sight. Thamsherku (6,623 m.) and Kwangde (6,011 m.) loom to the east and west, and the secred mountain Khumbila (5,707 m.) dominates the skyline to the north behind the village.
 
Day 3 : Thame (3,801 m.)
 
Traverse westwards with view of kwangde 96,011 m.) and the waterfalls cascading off its flanks. Follow Bhote Koshi as trail goes high its bank through yellow and white rhododendron forest (full bloom in May). Cross river, look back down valley for beautiful views of Thamserku (6,623 m.) and Kusum Kanguru (6,367 m.) Climb up through rhododendron forest to pasture lands in front of village of Thame.
This village is the birth place of Tenzing Norgay, who first climbed the Mt. Everest with sir Edmund Hillary. (Six hours)
 
Day 4 : Khumjung (3,801 m.)
 
This village is one the most beautiful in Khumbu. (Six hours).
 
Day 5 : Tangboch (3,863 m.)
 
The trail descends from Khumjung with chortens framing a dramatic view of Amadablam (6,812 m.) and Kangtega (6,779 m.) (Five hours).
 
Day 6 : Digboche (4,334 m.)
 
Descend from Tengboche and again cross the Imja Khola, then side hill gradually to Pongboche. An interesting gompa site above the main village. The trekkers is in the midst of the Himalayas here, with spectacular views all around. For acclimatization, need to spend two nights here. (Five hours).
 
Day 7 : Dingboche (4,412 m.)
 
Day hike to Chukung is highly recommended. The route gradually ascends to the few scattered stone huts that make up the settlement. To the south are ever changing views of Amadablam and to the north the massive walls of the Nuptse ridge and the south face of Lhotse (Five hours.)
 
Day 8 : Lobuche (4,390 m.)
 
The route past Pheriche slants over a ridge and stays above the village. It joins the trail below Thugla. Beautiful views of Cholatse (6,440 m.) across the valley. After another steep ascent, the trail climbs up and over the terminal moraine of Khumbu Glacier. Up and along
the west lateral moraine of glacier, the trail is rough in parts. Taweche and Nuptse are particularly spectacular  from Lobuche, towering almost 2 kilometers directly overhead. (Five hours).
 
Day 9 : Lobuche (4,390 m.)
 
Early starts is essential. Walk along the Khumbu glacier through Jumbled moraine and shattered rock. Climb Kala Patthar (5,545 m.) for view of the giant of earth, Pumori (7,161 m.), the Everest, Tibetan peak Changtse (7,501 m.), Nuptse, Lhotse and countless other snow clad mountain peaks. (A route to actual Base Camp of Everest is usually omitted).
 
Day 10 : Phortse (3,847 m.)
 
Descend gradually all morning. Pass through Pangboche. Camp high on the west bank of the river to the Sherpa village of Phortse. (Six hours).
 
Day 11 : Khunde / Khumjung (3,791 m.)
 
Descends through forests to the Dudh Koshi, a very pretty crossing-point leads to a steady climb to a Chorten, offering wonderful views back cross the valley of Phortse, Tengboche and their surrounding mountains, a traverse leads  to classic descent down a giant rock pathway when out of the mountain side. A plod up the valley leads back to the twin villages of Khumjung and Khunde.
 
Day 12 : Monjo / Jorsale 92,800 m.)
 
The route home leads back through Namche and off down the hill. (Five hours.)
 
Day 13 : Jorsale - Lukla (2,904 m.)
From here the walk to Lukla takes about five hours of which the last one and half are rather surprisingly hard work.
 
Day 14 : Fly Back to Kathmandu.
 
One of the most thrilling take-off in the world wings the 45 minutes flight back to the Kathmandu.
