LANGTANG / GOSAINKUND 16 Days trek

This is one of the best treks in the central region of Nepal. We begin at Dhunche, six hours drive from Kathmandu and walk in lower and warmer region until Syabru Besi. Itinerary of Langtang Trek

Day 1 : Arrive Kathmandu meet asst, transfer to hotel, brief about trek, collect passports to obtain the permits.

Day 2 : Free day or hiring equipment or sightseeing in the valley.

Day 3 : 07:00 start bus to Dunche about 6:00 hours. Overnight at Dhunche (1966 m.)

Day 4 : Dhunche-Syabru (approx. 4 1/2 hours)

A pleasant walk through sparse pine forest, mountain elevation increases graduallyelevation to syabru is (2,118 m.)

Day 5 : Syabru-Lama Hotel (Approx. 6 hours)

The trail descends to the Langang Khola through the forests. The trail meets the river at about 1890 meters elevation, then follow it on its southern bank as the river gains elevation very steeply. For the rest of this day and the following morning there is almost no human habitation. The terai crosses to the north bank of Langtang Khola 2,040 meters. Elevation on a wooden bridge, then continues up its northern bank. The forest is less dense and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oak as opposed to the damp sunshine all day. Then arrives Lama Hotel (2,380 m.)

Day 6 : Lama Hotel-Langtang (approx. 5 1/2 hours)

The trail climbs steeply above the river on the northern side of the Langtang Khola, in place so steep that the trail is no logs anchored to the valley wall. Tantalizing glimpses of Langtang Lirjung, 7,246 meters, appear through the trees, until finally at Ghora Tabela is at 3,000 meters is now a Nepalese army post. The trail ascends gradually to the valley becomes wider and wider through scattered Tamang village until the large settlement of Langtang is reached a 3,500 meters. The houses of Langtang and neighboring villages are of Tibetan style

surrounded by stone walls enclosing fields of buck wheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley. Herds of Yaks and cattle are kept above the village.

Day 7 : Langtang to Kanjing (approx. 4 hours)

The trail now climbs gradually through small villages and Yak pastures as the valley becomes broader. After crossing the several small streams and moraines, the rail reaches at Conjoin Gompa (3,800 meters). Here there is a small monastery and government cheese factory.

Day 8 : Rest at Kanjing, explore the area.

Day 9 : Kanjing Gompa-Lama Hotel (6 hours)

Day 10 : Lama Hotel-Syabru (5 hours)

Day 11 : Syabru-Sing Gompa (6 hours)

A hard morning pull up the hill immediately behind Syabru leads to the ridgeline offering views north in to Tibet and west towards the

Annapurna. Walk through the ancient hemlock and rhododendron forest to the little settlement of Sing Gompa. In spring the area is a mass of flowers.

Day 12 : Sing Gompa (7 hours)-Gosaikund (4,180 m.)

The country changes again becoming alpine and the approach to the famous holy leak is through harsh granite country with the forest left far below.

Day 13 : Gosainkund (5 hours)-Ghopte cave (3,566 m.)

Climb to the lake for 305 m. onto the pass leading south. Another hour across the snow and scree before a jolting descent and the path turns eastward.

Day 14 : Ghopte Cave (5 hours)-Khutung Sangu

The trail passes through the forests descends to Khutung Sangu 2,470 meters situated in a saddle a top the ridge.

Day 15 : Khutung Sangu (6 hours)-Pati Bhanjyang

The trail passes through the forests ascends to Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang 2,620 meter, continue the ridge through forests, crosses 2,470 meters and descending to Pati Bhanjyang 1,770 meters. Day 16 : Pati Bhanjyang (4 hours)-Sundarijal The trail passes through rhododendron and oak forests to Sundarijal then drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.
